Creep characteristics of muddy submarine channel slope instability

چکیده

Creep is an important factor of muddy submarine channel slope instability. In this study, a sub-bottom profiler was used to monitor the continuous internal change in laboratory better understand creep characteristics and mechanism The process analyzed according changes sound intensity. results indicate notable during instability process. Changes intensity time series decrease with increasing depth, fluctuation depth vertical varies can be roughly divided into four stages based on profile data: expansion stage; unstable fracture post-fracture development stage. An adjustment sediment microstructure ascribed deformation. This study highlights prospects high-resolution acoustic monitoring detect quantify entire instability, which great significance for evaluation early warning prediction

An Aggradational Tributary Submarine-channel Network, Continental Slope Brunei Darussalam

The present-day continental slope offshore Brunei Darussalam (NW Borneo) displays several networks of submarine channels possessing planform attributes similar to those observed in better studied river systems. We use shallow 3D seismic data to study one tributary network in detail. This network is located directly downslope from the shelf-edge Champion Delta and encompasses an area approximate...

Estimation of Shelf-Slope Exchanges Induced by Frontal Instability Near Submarine Canyons

[1] The dynamics associated with the propagation of unstable waves along a density front and their interaction with submarine canyons are simulated and analyzed with a fine-resolution three-dimensional primitive equation coastal ocean model. Simulations consider flow in an alongshore density front over two bottom topographies: an idealized straight shelf and a shelf incised by a canyon. The sta...

Analysis of the Causes and Consequences of Submarine Slope Failure

The link between sedimentation/erosion, pore pressure evolution and slope stability is being explored using analytical and numerical modeling. This modeling is being done in collaboration with Ulisses Mello of IBM’s T.J. Watson Research Center, who is an expert in hydrologic and structural simulations. Numerical modeling is also being used to simulate the effect of turbidity current erosion and...

The Effects of Radial Support Characteristics on Submarine Hull Instability Pressures

In practice, the submarine's major internal equipment is mounted to welded plating foundations, but submarine designers have been looking at the recent French innovation whereby the major internal equipment is mounted to a large truss/cradle structure through point supports. The focus of this research investigates the effects of radial point supports on the stability behavior of cylindrical she...

Characteristics of the Submarine Line Officer :

The objectives of this study were to identify the major motives underlying an officer's decision to volunteer for the Submarine Service. Responses to the open-ended question "Why are you interested in submarines?" were obtained from two samples of officer candidates for Basic Submarine School (Ns were 59 and 60). Categorization and Q-sorting of this array of responses produced 9 motivation cate...
